FRAND access regimes in European law - webinar slides now available

26 June 2019

Presented today by Mathew Heim, Independent Policy Counsel, Tanfield Chambers

The slides for our webinar today on FRAND access regimes are now available here. Inspired by the on-going debate on dominant digital platforms, this webinar explored European policy and legislation based on ‘fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory’ (FRAND) terms used to ensure access to inputs or technologies considered to be critical.

Based on 4iP Council's recent paper, co-authored with Dr Igor Nikolic and also published in JIPITEC, May 2019, the webinar drew conclusions on the function and meaning of FRAND in Europe.

The following questions were addressed:

  • What is the scope of the FRAND regimes as a European law instrument?
  • What are the common elements that make up FRAND terms and conditions?
  • What conclusions can be drawn from past practice?
  • How FRAND can be applied going forward?

The recording may be found on the webinar page.

Webinars are part of 4iP Council's on-going IP educational activities.
