4iP Council EU has appointed Axel Ferrazzini, as Managing Director. He brings with him a deep understand of fundamental technology R&D and the role that IP protection plays in incentivising investment.
"I am a firm believer in the use of sound empirical data to shape Europe’s IP policy decisions. There is an 'evidence gap' in this area that 4iP Council has taken the initiative to fill by bringing R&D investors, academics and policy-makers together. I am looking forward to driving this effort further," said Axel.
“Axel will be our figurehead in Brussels and beyond. He is a seasoned intellectual property expert and innovator whose experience straddles technology R&D, business management and public policy development. We are delighted to have him on board," said Claudia Tapia board member of 4iP Council EU.
Axel joins 4iP Council from BlackBerry where for a decade he had multiple responsibilities including the company’s standards intellectual property policy strategy. Axel has held Board-level and advisory positions with the Open Mobile Alliance and DigitalEurope and is a current member of the Board of ETSI.
Prior to joining BlackBerry, Axel worked for Orange where as a member of Orange Labs Executive Committee, he was closely involved in developing the group’s research and development strategy and building supporting teams. As Manager of Technological Choices he built and managed a team of over thirty standards experts and worked across the group’s divisions worldwide to create innovative services and develop intellectual property.
Axel first joined Orange as an R&D Engineer and holds more than 20 patents. He has an MS in Computer Science from EPITA and an Executive MBA in strategy, entrepreneurship, innovation and management from the ESSEC & Mannheim business school.
