Wayne Chinembiri

Senior Researcher, Intellectual Property Rights Policy at Ericsson

Wayne Chinembiri is a senior legal researcher at Ericsson in the Intellectual Property Policy and Legal Academic Research division. In this capacity, he is tasked with undertaking legal research on issues of Standardization and implementation of cellular standards in Africa. His areas of interest include the Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart cities in Africa, standard essential patents (SEPs) in the connected automotive industry and the achievement of Africa’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through adoption and deployment of mobile network connectivity.

Wayne graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree (LLB) from Midlands State University in Zimbabwe. He is an admitted Attorney of the High and Supreme Court of Zimbabwe and has litigation experience in Corporate law, among other areas. He also holds a Master of Laws Degree in Intellectual Property Law (LL.M) from the Anton Mostert Research Chair situate at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Currently, he is pursuing his doctoral studies at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and works as a Research Associate at the Chair of Corporate and Intellectual Property Law. He also teaches World Trade Law at the Triple Crown accredited TUM School of Management.
