Prof. Noam Shemtov

Professor Noam Shemtov joined the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) at Queen Mary University of London in September 2009. He holds the Chair of Intellectual Property and Technology Law at CCLS and serves as Director of the Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute. He teaches across the fields of intellectual property, creative industries, and technology law, which also form the core focus of his research. He currently serves as President of the European Intellectual Property Institutes Network (EIPIN).

Professor Shemtov has led numerous research projects and studies funded by UK Research Councils, as well as by industry, national, supranational, and commercial organisations. These include Creativeworks London, CISAC, Microsoft, WIPO, the European Patent Office, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), the UK Department for International Development (DFID), and the European Space Agency. His influential work at the intersection of intellectual property and technology law led to his inclusion by the European Patent Office among the 50 leading technology voices for the 50 years of the European Patent Convention.

He also holds visiting academic appointments at universities in France, Spain, and the Netherlands, where he regularly lectures on intellectual property, technology and the creative industries. Professor Shemtov is a qualified solicitor in both the United Kingdom and Israel.
